Welcome to the Crofters Commission website.

The Commission is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body answerable to the Scottish Government and, through them, to the Scottish Parliament.  It is the statutory regulator for Crofting.

Our vision is that the Commission is recognised as a knowlegeable, open, fair, efficient regulator.

PLEASE NOTE - Under the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 and new Planning legislation, the Crofters Commission has a range of new legislative duties, and has been directed by the Scottish Government to focus all of our available resources on effective regulation.

We will try to be helpful, but to deliver a consistent service and discharge these key responsibilities, the Commission will not be able to provide detailed guidance on individual issues or circumstances, or become involved in mediation.

We can provide general guidance, which is updated frequently and available from our website or by contacting our office.  This guidance is updated in light if demand and is available here.

For guidance or advice on your individual circumstances, you may wish to seek independent advice.

Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 - Parts of the 2nd Commencement Order came into force on 1st October 2011.  you may wish to make yourself familiar with the changes, as they affect everyone involved in crofting.  All relevant information about the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 can be found here along with a copy of the Crofters Commission Interim Plan.
