Management Team
The Management Team brings together the senior managers in the Commission to discuss and take collective decisions on procedure, staffing and resource issues, and co-ordinate policy advice to the Commission. The Team aims to meet fortnightly.
Responsible for directing the Commission's powers towards delivering long term benefit to rural communities and managing the four delivery teams; Occupancy, Regulation, Land Use and Policy and Reporting.
John Toal, Head of Policy & Occupation
The Occupancy team works to increase the contribution crofting makes to rural communities and to the national outcomes identified by the Scottish Government. A key element of the team’s work is to increase the number of resident crofters by addressing croft absenteeism.
Supports the Board in formulating strategic policy on a range of external and internal issues in pursuit of their operating objectives. Leads on the provision and reporting of statistical and geographic information.
Donna Smith, Head of Information Systems
Responsible for the management of IT based systems such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Crofting Administration Database System (CADS), Intranet, and IT network infrastructure and administration. The Information Systems team is also responsible for monitoring data quality, business process design & improvement and supporting ongoing projects such as the creation of the electoral roll and other changes introduced by the 2010 Crofting Reform Act.
Training Liaison Officer responsible for staff development and liaison with SGRPID on joint training. Lead Officer for Equality & Diversity and responsible for the staff appraisal system; the Assessor network, including the conference. Communications (internal and external), including publications and the website. Jane also has responsibility for the overall management of administrative support services within the organisation and to external customers, including telephone and reception cover.
Archie Macnab, Head of Land Use
Responsible for co-ordinating support for the management of common assets and common grazings. Leads on the liaison with communities and key organisational partners on partnership working areas and opportunities. Also leads on the Commission's role in the local authority planning process by fulfilling its role as a Statutory Consultee in the planning process and land use. The Commission's overall area is split into four administrative geographical sub-areas - Northern Isles & Caithness, Highlands, Western Isles, and Skye, Lochalsh, South & West Inverness and Argyll. Crofting Regulation in these areas is supported and delivered through a Team headed by Archie, who has responsibility for service delivery.
